Environmental, Social
& Governance

At HAE, we recognise the importance of addressing the environmental and social impact of our operations. We understand the responsibility we bear in mitigating our carbon footprint and contributing positively to the communities we serve. Our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles is ingrained in every aspect of our business, driving us to implement innovative strategies and initiatives that prioritise sustainability and social responsibility. In 2024, we were awarded a Committed company sustainability rating badge from Ecovardis, a global provider of business sustainability ratings. We have been implementing further improvements and aiming for a higher rating in 2025.

Empty Spaces Project

In March 2025 HAE Group Tree Planting Club arrived to Ngandu village in Kenya delivering 2000 improved varieties of fruit tree seedlings. This was the beginning of our new Empty Spaces project implementation.

The idea of filling empty spaces on local farmers fields with fruit trees was developed with the aim to help the community to transition to more sustainable agriculture practices, restore the environment and create new economic opportunities. It is a science-based project and creates a platform for informed discussion increasing environmental awareness.

This project connects us directly to final beneficiaries by adopting a participatory approach to generate impact data. Empowering local stakeholders to record and report impact of the project will help us to create a fuller picture into our impact and how it is felt.

Useful conclusions will be drawn applying scientific expertise and human insights.

Energy Efficiency Initiatives

Both HE Belfast Airport Handling and East Midlands Airport Handling have new LED flood lights installed 2024-2025. This installation delivers exceptional lighting performance in a robust, IP65 weather resistant package.

The LED flood lights replaced the old ones which contained halogen bulbs which were far less energy efficient, generated more heat and used a substantially more amount of electricity.

This investment deliverers two-fold benefits; primarily, creating a brighter operational environment during the hours of darkness enhances our goal of keeping Health & Safety at the forefront of everything we do and secondly, using modern technologies such as energy efficient LED flood lights to reduce our carbon footprint by lowering energy consumption, and benefit from longer-lasting bulbs, which also means less maintenance and lower replacement costs.

Greenhouse Gas Mitigation

Embracing sustainable solutions, we continue investing in new equipment with significantly lower emissions, less noise pollution and fully modernised enhancing health and safety.

We have also implemented measures to minimise business travel, leveraging online platforms like Teams for local and international meetings, significantly reducing GHG emissions associated with travel. Most of our offices' employees choose to work from home 3-4 days a week. This not only reduces road congestion but also reduces their carbon footprint.
